Mugabe snubs new Cabinet’s advice on ex-fighters’ removal
Financial Gazette
03 August, 2000

President Robert Mugabe has dismissed advice from his new Cabinet to order independence war veterans off occupied white-owned farms and instead has personally assured the ex-fighters’ leader Chenjerai Hunzvi of his support for the seizures.

Authoritative sources told the Financial Gazette this week that Mugabe last Friday told Hunzvi to ignore instructions from Vice-President Joseph Msika and Agriculture Minister Joseph Made. "The President assured Hunzvi that he was fully behind the farm occupations. He said the war veterans should not listen to Msika and Made," one source said.  TOP
