Post-election violence hits Kariba
Daily News
03 July, 2000

Post-election violence hit Kariba's Nyamhunga Township on Wednesday night as youths from Zanu PF and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) fought running battles throughout the night. One person was injured and admitted to hospital after the clashes. Few other youths from both sides were treated for minor injuries at Nyamhunga Clinic and were later discharged. The injured Augustine Chawasarira, a Zanu (PF) youth, was among several youths who raided a house in Nyamhunga and took two MDC T-shirts. Late on Saturday night, Chawasarira, accompanied by other Zanu (PF) youths, went to Nyamhunga Beer Hall, where they attacked Master Napwaro, an MDC supporter, using an iron bar. Running battles ensued and Chawasarira was struck on the chest, sustaining injuries.    TOP
